BASTROP, Texas (AP) - A man authorities say conspired with a former Austin police officer to kill the patrolman’s pregnant girlfriend has pleaded not guilty to capital murder.

The Austin American-Statesman reports (https://atxne.ws/1Rlv0F1 ) Kevin Watson entered his plea during a court hearing Wednesday in Bastrop.

Tyrone Moncriffe, Watson’s attorney, said after the hearing that the man’s legal team will “fight all the way through a trial.”

Authorities contend that Watson and former Austin officer VonTrey Clark- longtime friends - conspired with others to orchestrate the killing of Clark’s pregnant girlfriend, Samantha Dean, in 2015.

Prosecutors allege Clark was willing to pay $5,000 to have Dean killed to avoid paying child support.

Clark pleaded not guilty to capital murder in November after he was extradited from Indonesia.

Both Watson and Clark remained jailed.
