FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say a Fort Dodge man’s suspicious death in December has been ruled a homicide.

The body of 55-year-old Mark Umbaugh was found between two homes on Dec. 13. It’s unknown how long the body had been there before its discovery.

An autopsy shows Umbaugh died of a head injury with hypothermia and other medical factors contributing to his death.

Fort Dodge Police Chief Kevin Doty said the label of homicide doesn’t mean someone intentionally killed Umbaugh. He told The Messenger that “officers have identified a number of unfortunate circumstances that may have possibly contributed to Mr. Umbaugh’s death.”

No arrests have been reported.
