BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) - A 21-year-old man charged with sexually assaulting a girl at a neighbor’s Birch Bay home has been sentenced to six years in prison.

The Bellingham Herald reports (https://goo.gl/hgc2p7 ) that Ray Anthony Hollis was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to reduced charges of indecent liberties and burglary. He had initially been charged with rape of a child.

The victim told authorities Hollis came over to her home uninvited, they watched a movie and then Hollis sexually assaulted her.

Hollis told authorities that he had gone to his neighbor’s house to get alcohol and that the girl made up the allegations because she didn’t want to get in trouble for drinking with him. He says he only pleaded guilty to avoid a more severe sentence.
