RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) - The father and twin sister of a Long Island man convicted in the 2011 killing of an 18-year-old man have admitted to covering up his crime.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1Rze5fg ) 56-year-old Keith Liming and 23-year-old Elaine Liming were sentenced to probation on Wednesday after they admitted to deliberately misleading a grand jury investigating the death of Kyle Underhill.

Keith Liming pleaded guilty to perjury and Elaine Liming pleaded guilty to attempted criminal contempt.

Thomas Liming was convicted last year of second-degree murder for beating and burying Underhill alive in Islip. He was sentenced to 25 years to life behind bars last month.

Thomas Liming had claimed he acted in self-defense. But prosecutors say Underhill’s injuries were so extensive there was no way it was self-defense.
