SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - A man accused of killing a 10-month-old girl in Saginaw County will receive a psychiatric evaluation.

A judge on Wednesday granted a request for an exam for 28-year-old Michael Lask. The Saginaw News (https://bit.ly/1SinSJC ) reports he faces an open count of murder in the strangulation of Ciana Leigh McCliggott earlier this month.

Lask’s attorney, James Piazza, says Lask has been previously diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Piazza asked for a psychiatric evaluation to determine if Lask is mentally competent and can be held criminally responsible.

Doctors at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ypsilanti will soon interview Lask and write a report for the judge to review.

Lask is being held without bond.
