ST. LOUIS (AP) - An eastern Missouri man has pleaded guilty in federal court to charges that he conspired with a former deputy in a series of assaults on women.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1VIFQb7 ) reports that Jonathan Pohlmann, 47, of Owensville, pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy to violate civil rights.

Authorities say Pohlmann conspired with former Gasconade County deputy Marty Rainey, 52, of Sullivan, to “injure, oppress, threaten, and intimidate” women with whom Rainey came in contact as a law enforcement officer. In addition to his role as a deputy, Rainey worked as a police officer in Hermann and Rosebud.

Rainey faces state and federal charges. He is accused of sexually abusing women and enticing a minor into prostitution. Pohlmann also faces charges of sexual assault, statutory rape and use of a child in a sexual performance.

Pohlmann’s attorney declined comment Wednesday following a hearing to determine whether Pohlmann will remain jailed until sentencing. Rainey’s attorney has declined comment.

Federal and state charging documents allege that Rainey would threaten or coerce women into having sex with him, Pohlmann or both, while on duty. The documents use the initials of six different women who described sex acts with Rainey, including one who was under 17 at the time.
