SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The parents of a man fatally shot by Utah police have been awarded a $900,000 settlement, but they’re still working out some details in court.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/21IJl11 ) that Darrien Hunt’s mother and father are at odds about how to divide the settlement money. His mother, Susan Hunt, also has a disagreement with her former attorney about how much she owes in attorney’s fees.
Darrien Hunt was 22 when he was shot and killed by Saratoga Springs police while holding a costume samurai sword. Attorney Robert Sykes filed a lawsuit on behalf of Hunt’s separated parents, Susan and Chris Hunt, in January 2015.
After a disagreement about the settlement, Susan Hunt fired Sykes and hired new lawyers.
Saratoga Springs did not admit any liability in the settlement.
