LAS VEGAS (AP) - A jury convicted a former North Las Vegas teacher of charges related to sexual activity with a student.

Jurors took two hours to find Jason Lofthouse guilty of 10 counts of sexual conduct between a school employee and a student and two counts of kidnapping.

Lofthouse was arrested in June 2015 after being caught in a locked classroom with a 17-year-old female student.

Prosecutors say the girl admitted to having sex with Lofthouse at two hotels and engaging in sex acts in his classroom.

She testified last week that she never felt trapped or coerced by him.

While the age of consent in Nevada is 16, state law prohibits sexual contact between school employees above age 21 and students under 18.

Lofthouse will be sentenced May 17.
