CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Police have released the name of the woman who was mauled to death by two pit bulls in a townhome in Charlotte.

Investigators tell local media outlets that Bessie Flowers was visiting a family member when she was attacked Monday afternoon. Animal control officers went to the home after receiving a call about an aggressive animal and found the woman dead.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Capt. Todd Lontz says the dogs were family pets. The dogs were licensed and vaccinated and the incident is still under investigation.

The dogs are being quarantined for 10 days while the investigation continues.
