WACO, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas man arrested a day after the 1991 slaying of his wife but freed due to lack of evidence must serve 15 years in prison for strangling her.

Thomas Michael Kolar of Waco pleaded guilty Tuesday to manslaughter in a plea deal and then was sentenced by a judge. The 56-year-old Kolar must serve half of the prison term before being eligible for parole.

Waco police arrested Kolar on a murder charge hours after his 27-year-old wife, Amy, was discovered dead on July 20, 1991, at a residence.

Prosecutors later cited insufficient evidence for the case to proceed.

The victim’s sister, Lorie Molina, urged investigators to take another look at the case. Kolar was arrested in 2014 on a murder charge.
