ODESSA, Texas (AP) - Odessa police have confiscated a handgun from a home in the investigation of a 17-year-old high school student accused of killing his parents as they slept.

James Gabriel McDonald was being held Thursday on a capital murder charge and $2 million bond.

Cpl. Steve LeSueur (luh-SWEER’) says the teen was charged as an adult in Wednesday’s fatal shooting of James Gregory McDonald and Jana Lou McDonald. Police are seeking a motive.

LeSueur says the suspect’s 23-year-old sister was home but not hurt. An affidavit says she told police that her brother came into her room and said he planned to shoot their parents. She thought he was kidding until he walked out and she heard gunfire.

Jail records don’t list an attorney to speak for the suspect.
