LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A Leesville man has pleaded guilty to burglarizing homes and a truck on the Fort Polk Army base.
U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley, in a news release, says 22-year-old Dakota Yarbrough entered the plea Thursday before U.S. District Judge Patricia Minaldi to one count of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.
Finley’s office says Yarbrough was driven to the outskirts of the military base around 10 p.m. on Aug. 5 and then crossed the fence onto the installation. He then illegally entered two homes, where families were sleeping, and stole personal belongings. He also broke into and stole items from a pickup truck.
Many of the stolen items were later found in Yarbrough’s home.
Yarbrough faces 12 years in prison and a $2,000 fine. Sentencing was set for June 9.
