RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A community gathering is being held at the scene of the first of a series of random shootings in the Kalamazoo area.

Six people were killed and two others were injured in the shootings Feb. 20. The Kalamazoo Gazette (https://bit.ly/1nmxPL3 ) reports The Meadows Townhomes, the scene of the first shooting, is holding a “Community Night of Remembrance” from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Tiana Carruthers was shot and wounded in front of one of the buildings there.

The Meadows area manager Naarah Potts says the open house-style gathering is meant to be a night of community uplifting. She says a large canvas will be decorated with fingerprints of participating visitors, and the resulting artwork will be displayed at Kalamazoo City Hall and Oshtemo and Richland township halls.
