ATLANTA (AP) - Police say a suspect fleeing police custody has been hit by a car in downtown Atlanta.
Local media outlets report that the incident occurred Friday.
Atlanta police spokesman Lukasz Sajdak says an officer was transferring the suspect back to the CNN center precinct for processing.
Sajdak says while inside the transport vehicle, the handcuffed man broke free from police custody and ran into traffic on Centennial Olympic Park Drive.
Police say the suspect was then struck by a passing motorist.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. His condition wasn’t immediately known, and no other details have been released.
The incident remains under investigation.
