LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) - A Lexington County woman has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in the death of a 2-year-old boy who authorities say was thrown against the floor and a wall.
Lexington County solicitor Donnie Myers said in a news release that 20-year-old Desiree Nicole Almgren received the maximum sentence after she entered the plea on Friday.
She was the live-in girlfriend of the child’s father at the time of the incident that occurred on Easter Sunday, 2012.
Authorities say that after the child was injured, Almgren packed her belongings and left the child alone. A doctor testified at the hearing that the child would have survived with immediate medical attention.
