LIVINGSTON, Ala. (AP) - An investigation involving state and federal is under way at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department in west Alabama.

The Tuscaloosa News (https://bit.ly/1QBLF6O ) quotes Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Reginal King as saying state officers were on hand at the sheriff’s office in Livingston on Tuesday assisting with a federal investigation.

The Sumter County Record-Journal posted a photo on its Facebook page showing FBI and state vehicles parked at the Sumter County Jail. The newspaper reports that some officers were wearing gear to protect against hazardous materials, and others were in tactical gear.

FBI spokesman Paul Daymond from Birmingham tells WTOK-TV the activity is part of ongoing law enforcement action.

Sheriff Tyrone Clark didn’t immediately return a telephone message seeking comment.
