WESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Weston City Council has authorized an investigation of the city’s finances.

City Clerk Kristin Droppleman tells the Exponent Telegram (https://bit.ly/1TLphfk) that the council agreed during its Monday meeting to ask the West Virginia State Police to look at the city’s financial records.

Mayor Julia Spelsberg says having another set of eyes look over the city’s books is a good move as council prepares to hire a new finance manager.

Spelsberg says the council also appointed Droppleman as interim city manager. She says they are currently looking into whether or not a permanent city manager is necessary.

In addition, the council passed the first reading of an ordinance to apply for the state municipal home rule program. Droppleman says a second and final reading of the ordinance will be Monday.
