BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The Bismarck School Board has decided to close Saxvik Elementary after this school year.
KXMB television reports (https://bit.ly/1QykUwB ) the board at a recent meeting voted to close or repurpose the school, perhaps as some type of community center.
Teachers and staff will be moved to various locations throughout the district. Parents have received boundary maps showing which school their children would attend in the fall.
Saxvik Elementary is 64-years-old. Officials say factors such as handicap accessibility, parking, playground and storage space and technology infrastructure came into play when determining the future of the school.
Superintendent Tamara Uselman says it would have cost $2.5 million dollars to renovate the school. Repurposing the building and some employees could end up saving the school district about $1.4 million per year.
