AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The Maine Holocaust and Human Rights Center is holding an interfaith observance to remember the 6 million Jews who died in the Holocaust.

Sunday’s event includes a children’s opera that was performed at a concentration camp in the Czech Republic and music performed by the Messalonskee High School Mastersingers.

The Day of Remembrance was started in 1953 to honor of the 10th anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising. It was held at the Maine Holocaust and Human Rights Center’s Michael Klahr Center on the University of Maine at Augusta campus.
