NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) - A tall ship that belongs to the Mexican Navy is visiting New London this week as part of a goodwill mission.
The tall ship Cuauhtémoc (KWOW’-taymuk) is introducing cadets from the Mexican Naval Academy to their counterparts at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London.
The ship is to pause off Fort Trumbull and render the traditional 21-gun salute before arriving at the city pier on Monday morning. The ship will be open for tours during the visit to New London.
The ship is named for the last Aztec emperor, who ruled from 1520 to 1521.
