CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire’s saltwater anglers may now catch five times more haddock a day under new state and federal rules.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say the daily bag limit for recreational fishermen has increased from three to 15 fish daily.

Also the seasonal closure period for haddock has been shortened to March 1 to April 14 annually.

Fish and Game Marine Fisheries Division chief Doug Grout says the eased restrictions reflect a substantial increase in the haddock population tallied during an assessment last year. Grout said they are no longer considered to be “overfished.”

The recreational fishery for cod continues to be closed.

The new haddock rules take effect Sunday, May 1.
