PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gov. Gina Raimondo is planning to visit a Providence high school to celebrate College Signing Day with graduating seniors.

The Democratic governor is scheduled to visit Central High School on Monday.

School administrators say 130 of Central High’s 222 seniors have declared postsecondary education plans so far this spring, an all-time high for the school.

The Obama administration has been promoting National College Signing Day as part of a broader initiative called “Reach Higher” encouraging a college-going culture among high school students.

First Lady Michelle Obama celebrated it with New York City high schoolers Tuesday. It’s meant to be an expansion of the February tradition when high school football players and other athletes sign letters of intent to join college teams.
