WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - Williston’s historic Old Armory is celebrating its centennial.
KFYR television reports (https://bit.ly/1VEax2F ) that the armory’s primary purpose back in 1916 was to be the home and training facility for company E of the North Dakota National Guard, first North Dakota infantry.
The armory was officially retired from military service in the late 1950s. Since then, it has served as the home for many organizations. It hosts plays and is a rehearsal hall for the Miss North Dakota scholarship pageant.
Diane Hagen is a historic Old Armory board member. She says it’s important that the community preserves the history of some of the city’s old buildings.
