SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota judge has upheld the $1 million bond for a Sioux Falls woman accused of killing her 2-year-old foster son.

Thirty-two-year-old Mary Beth Jennewein is charged with second-degree murder for the death of Miles Stead, who was taken off life support on Jan. 6 after suffering a traumatic brain injury.

The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports (https://argusne.ws/1T5N4oQ) that Judge Susan Sabers on Wednesday denied a request by Jennewein’s attorney to have bond reduced between $100,000 and $150,000. Defense attorney John Wilka said it’s a tragic case but Jennewein does not pose a threat to the community.

Minnehaha County prosecutor Lori Ehlers argued that the severity of the charges are an important factor and her office has received hundreds of emails from people asking that bond not be reduced.
