RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - A Riverside County man has been convicted of the 2013 beating death of his girlfriend, a woman who held a world record for her collection of more than 15,000 shoes.

The Press-Enterprise newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/24NYcun) 32-year-old Justin Charles Smith was found guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder. A jury concluded the crime was intentional but not premeditated.

The body of 58-year-old Darlene Flynn was found in her backyard swimming pool in Menifee after neighbors reported yelling. Investigators said the Guinness World Record holder was beaten to death with a baseball bat.

Witnesses testified that the relationship had been volatile. Small claims court records showed Flynn alleged Smith owed her nearly $10,000.

Smith faces 16 years to life in state prison when he’s sentenced July 8.
