GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say a 20-year-old man died after he was swept away by the current at a popular swimming hole in Grand Junction.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports Austin Worbington, a freshman on the Colorado Mesa University football team last fall, was found submerged at a spot called the Potholes on Glade Park on Wednesday evening.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports Worbington graduated from Falcon High School in Peyton.

Principal Cheryl DeGeorge called him “an incredible kid” who will be missed. The high school’s football team met on the field Thursday afternoon, and a community event to remember Worbington is scheduled on the football field Saturday night.
