ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A pediatrician at Lehigh Valley Hospital has been charged with indecently assaulting a woman while examining her infant.

The Lehigh County district attorney says 43-year-old Dr. Jarret Royce Paton straddled the woman’s legs and rubbed his pelvis against her several times while he appeared to be sexually aroused.

That happened during a Feb. 25 exam at the hospital.

Patton’s attorney says the matter could have been a misunderstanding. The attorney says the woman had to hold her child during the exam, making it “difficult” for Patton to examine the child “without some kind of contact” with the woman.

But the DA contends the 6-foot-5, 230-pound doctor pressed against the woman when she tried to move away.

The hospital has placed the doctor on leave and has cooperated with the investigation.
