DETROIT (AP) - About 400 people plan to help renovate a Detroit high school and spruce up a nearby park as part of National Arab American Service Day.

Saturday’s project includes repairing drop ceilings and installing bathroom stall doors at the Detroit Institute of Technology at Cody Rouge High School. The volunteers, who include students from Detroit and Dearborn, also will refurbish outdoor courts, paint, remove debris and plant gardens.

Roughly 2,000 volunteers in 10 states are expected to participate.

The 12th annual service day is hosted by the Dearborn-based National Network of Arab Communities, a program of the nonprofit ACCESS.

About 12,000 volunteers have participated since the event started in 2005.
