GRANITE CITY, Mo. (AP) - A chiropractor who operated in Granite City and was accused of submitting about $500,000 in false and fraudulent bills has pleaded guilty.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1sfCWjI ) reports that 45-year-old Bridget Brasfield pleaded guilty to health care fraud and money laundering Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors say Brasfield billed various health insurance companies for procedures performed by a doctor at Physical Medicine Clinic Ltd., when that doctor was out of the building or out of the country.

Brasfield is also accused of transferring $12,000 in proceeds from the fraud in violation of federal money laundering statutes.

She is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 30, and faces about two to three years in prison.
