GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - Authorities in Weld County are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed robbery suspect by Greeley police.

Police began pursuing him Wednesday night after a woman said he held two of her friends at gunpoint at a bowling alley and threatened to shoot them unless she got $200 from an ATM.

When police spotted the suspect in a vehicle later, they say he tried to run over officers before taking off. Police chased him until he crashed at an intersection in Evans. They say officers fired as he was pulling several people out of another vehicle to try to steal it.

The sheriff’s office says a team of investigators from around Weld County is looking into the shooting. Spokesman Matt Turner says it includes some Greeley police who weren’t involved in the shooting.
