MANNING, S.C. (AP) - A judge has granted a not guilty verdict for a man charged in a 2014 personal watercraft crash that killed a woman on Lake Marion.

WIS-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1TRIKby) that a judge approved a request Thursday from attorneys for Justin Walters for a directed verdict of not guilty on charges of reckless homicide.

Walters was arrested in 2014. Authorities said both he and 19-year-old Millicent McDonald had been operating personal watercraft. Walters crashed into McDonald, who never regained consciousness and died of head and chest injuries.

Walters’ trial got under way Wednesday, and his attorneys said McDonald was more to blame than Walters for the crash. The judge said prosecutors hadn’t presented any evidence to lead to Walters’ conviction.
