MANCHESTER, England (AP) - Leicester defender Danny Simpson will miss part of the team’s Premier League title-winning celebrations and a post-season trip to Thailand after being ordered to serve a curfew for choking his former girlfriend.

A judge in Manchester said Thursday that Simpson must start his curfew immediately. He must be at his home from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. for the next 21 days.

The 29-year-old Simpson was handed the curfew because he has completed less than half of the 300 hours of unpaid work in the community for which he was sentenced last June for assaulting the mother of his child at their house in 2014.

Leicester has a function planned on Sunday night after its last game of the season, at Chelsea in London, followed by an open-top bus parade in Leicester on Monday. The team travels to Thailand on Tuesday.

Simpson’s lawyer, Gary Ryan, asked for the rest of the player’s sentence to be revoked and for Simpson to be able pay a fine. Ryan said media intrusion had made it impossible for Simpson to complete the community work.

The judge said Simpson had so much money that a fine would be no punishment.

“The purpose of the order is to restrict the liberty of Mr. Simpson as punishment for the offense for which he was convicted,” Judge Alexandra Simmonds said. “This was an offense of domestic violence and the courts take domestic violence very seriously. You will have to serve your sentence.”

Simpson will be monitored electronically by an ankle tag.

Simpson was convicted of assault after a police officer, who had been called to his house, found him sitting on top of his ex-girlfriend with his hands around her neck. He denied the offense but was found guilty after a trial.

Simpson was a regular at right back for Leicester in the 5,000-1 underdog’s improbable title-winning campaign.
