CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A major financial backer of Republicans in North Carolina says he won’t support the party’s presumptive nominee Donald Trump for president.

Art Pope told The Charlotte Observer (https://bit.ly/1TRUgn6 ) he won’t back “liberal Hillary Clinton or socialist Bernie Sanders or populist Donald Trump.” He says all three candidates look at government to solve problems.

The businessman and attorney says instead of wringing their hands over Trump, Republicans need to concentrate on winning other races down the ballot that are critical.

Pope says he hasn’t decided who he will vote for to be president, and he has several months to decide who to support in November.

Pope was once North Carolina’s state budget director and is the founder of conservative think tanks that give support and money to Republican candidates and causes.
