BOSTON (AP) - A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to serve in prison for the May 2013 slaying of his onetime girlfriend.

Phillip Carrington was sentenced Wednesday after he was convicted of second-degree murder and violating a restraining order by a Suffolk Superior Court jury on Tuesday.

Prosecutors say the 51-year-old Carrington strangled and beat 45-year-old Celestine Walker to death and left her on the floor of her apartment in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood.

Workers found Walker’s decomposing body under a sheet after responding to complaints of odors coming from the residence and flies around the front door.

Carrington will be eligible for parole after he serves 15 years.
