WEST SPARTA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a person whose body was found inside a burning vehicle parked on state-owned land in western New York.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and firefighters responded around 5 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a vehicle on fire off a road in the rural town of West Sparta, 35 miles south of Rochester.

After the fire was put out, a body was found inside the vehicle.

Officials say authorities are working to determine the sex and identity of the victim. Police say the vehicle wasn’t involved in an accident.
