AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Austin police say the death of a man known for his past work as a cashier at a fast food restaurant on the University of Texas campus has been ruled a homicide and they have a suspect.

Police said Wednesday they were preparing charges against a man in the slaying of 60-year-old Ishmael Mohammed Jr., known as “Junior the Wendy’s Guy.” The suspect is in jail on unrelated charges.

The Austin American-Statesman (https://atxne.ws/24O0oC5 ) reports Mohammed was found critically injured at a bus stop April 8. He died on April 11.

Mohammed worked as a cashier at Wendy’s inside UT’s Texas Union for 13 years before leaving in 2012. His quick register work caught the attention of a filmmaker who featured him in a documentary.
