SAYRE, Okla. (AP) - Authorities say a Sayre man was killed when he was shot in the back while trying to run from another man.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says 34-year-old Darren Drake died at an Elk City hospital following the shooting Wednesday and that a suspect is in custody.

The OSBI says Drake had gone to the suspect’s home in Sayre to retrieve an item allegedly stolen by the other man.

The agency says the two men then fought over a gun before Drake began to run away and was shot in the back.

The OSBI says the suspect was arrested on a first-degree murder complaint, however online records do not show that formal charges have been filed.
