BOONE, Iowa (AP) - A freight train has hit and killed an 84-year-old Webster City man in downtown Boone.

Police told the Fort Dodge Messenger (https://bit.ly/27glxXI ) the Union Pacific Railroad train hit Donald A. Cook about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, and he died at the scene.

A person saw the man hit and called 911.

Cook was a longtime Webster City businessman. He owned Security Title and Abstract, Inc., until selling the company in 2000. He 1985, he was elected president of the Iowa Land Title Association.

Police say they have no idea why he was walking through downtown Boone on Tuesday night.

The 106-car train was traveling from Oregon to Chicago.
