NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Tulane Medical Center will begin a $6 million renovation and upgrade of several areas of its downtown campus.

Tulane Health System said in a news release Wednesday the project will include building a new bone marrow transplant unit, renovating three medical/surgical units and adding a 128-slice CT scanner and 3 Tesla MRI scanner. Tulane said the CT scanner will provide 3-D images of any organ; the new MRI scanner will offer better image clarity with shorter scan times.

Work on the transplant unit will include adding eight rooms as well as additional private bathrooms and showers, a secure water supply and an exercise room for patients.

The Tulane Health System is a teaching, research and medical system serving the greater New Orleans area.
