SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The University of Utah Heath Care system has been named one of three national medical centers in the U.S. Olympic Committee’s network.

University officials announced Wednesday the new partnership is expected to bring top athletes to the hospital for specialized treatment and promote new research.

U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun says the hospital was chosen because for doctors’ expertise in sports medicine and the location.

Salt Lake City was the site of the 2002 Olympics. Elite skiers, speed skaters, snowboarders and other athletes still train in Utah.

The other two national medical centers locations are in New York and Vail, Colorado.

Athletes say they frequently deal with potentially debilitating injuries and having doctors they trust is essential to become top competitors.
