HOPE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State Police say two people have been killed in separate accidents on the state’s roadways in southwestern Arkansas.

Police say 51-year-old Melenta Zekanovic of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, died when he was struck by a tractor-trailer rig on Interstate 30 and a log truck driver was killed when the truck overturned on Highway 32 near Ashdown.

A police report says Zekanovic was standing beside his vehicle Thursday on the shoulder of I-30 near Hope when the semi went onto the shoulder and struck both Zekanovic and the vehicle.

The Texarkana Gazette reports that the log truck driver died when the truck went off the highway and overturned, also on Thursday.

The driver’s name has not been released.
