JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - An inmate who was found unconscious in his cell at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman has died.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections, in a news release Friday, said 21-year-old Jasper Bell was pronounced dead at 12:03 p.m. at Unit 29, where he was housed alone.
Bell was serving a 35-year sentence for multiple convictions in Hinds County including armed robbery, aggravated assault, residential burglary and carjacking. His crimes were committed in 2010, and he was sentenced on Jan. 4, 2012.
A cause of death is pending an autopsy.
