EASTON, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania woman who tried to have three witnesses killed in her husband’s murder trial will spend 10 months in federal prison for violating her probation.

Thirty-nine-year-old Sonia Panell pleaded guilty last year to trying to hire a relative to kill witnesses against 36-year-old Rene Figueroa. He’s serving up to 31 years in prison for a separate plot to kill witnesses and for a December 2012 gunbattle outside a Puerto Rican social club in Bethlehem that killed a woman and injured five other people.

Panell is married to Figueroa and received a time-served sentence plus three years’ probation for the aborted murder-for-hire plot.

But she was sentenced Wednesday for violating that probation with her arrest in December and conviction in April on charges she fought with two women while drinking.
