NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities have identified a man shot in the leg by police in New York City. Police say he fled a traffic stop while an officer was in the car and pulled a gun during a subsequent struggle.

Police say Ramell Lockwood is hospitalized in stable condition and faces charges in the incident late Wednesday.

Police say officers stopped a car that ran several red lights in Queens Village. But they say the driver refused to fully roll down his window or park the car.

Police say the driver sped off when a sergeant got in the car. The sergeant shot Lockwood after authorities say Lockwood pulled a gun on several responding officers during a tussle.

One officer suffered a bite wound.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Lockwood has an attorney.
