HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - The University of Southern Mississippi expects to award more than 1,800 degrees as it holds commencements in Hattiesburg and Biloxi.

Jeffrey R. George, the two-term president of USM’s Student Government Association, will address graduates at two ceremonies Friday at Reed Green Coliseum in Hattiesburg.

A native of Covington, Louisiana, George himself graduates Friday with a political science degree. He’s only the third, two-term student government president at USM in the last 50 years

Saturday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, graduates of the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach will hear from Hannah Roberts, Miss Mississippi and the 2015 Miss America runner-up. A Mount Olive native, Roberts graduated with highest honors from USM in 2015 with a degree in biochemistry and won a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship as an undergraduate.
