DENTON, Texas (AP) - Police say one person has been rescued but another died after being swept away by high water in a North Texas canal.

Denton police say the incident happened shortly before dawn Saturday. The name of the man who died was not immediately released.

A Denton officer was flagged down about a man and a woman swept away by floodwaters in a canal. Officers located the woman, identified as Teresa Kelly, yelling for help about a-half mile away in the canal. She was transported to a hospital for examination.

Kelly was rescued as emergency responders continued searching for the missing man. His body was located about five hours later.

Forecasters say the Denton area received scattered rainfall early Saturday.
