SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Police are investigating two separate crashes that killed two people, including a 3-year-old boy.

Authorities say the first incident happened southeast of Carlsbad around 8 a.m. Friday on State Road 128.

According to investigators, 51-year-old Javier Ornelas of Roswell lost control of his vehicle.

Police say Ornelas was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.

He succumbed to his injuries while being flown to a hospital.

The second crash occurred around 5 p.m. north of Santa Fe on Interstate 25.

Investigators say a vehicle carrying three people lost control and rolled over.

A boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, 24-year-old Charlotte McDonald of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and a male passenger were hospitalized in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
