LOS ANGELES (AP) - A police officer who was hit in the shoulder during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect will recover.
Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck told reporters early Saturday that the officer was being visited by his wife and baby in the hospital.
Police say the shooting took place around 8:30 p.m. Friday in the Boyle Heights area.
LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado told the Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/1saAUAJ) that two gang officers were trying to stop a man who fled.
The man then produced a gun and was killed in an exchange of gunfire.
The officers were wearing body cameras, and the footage will be reviewed.
The second officer suffered a wrenched back.
