PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a convenience store employee was shot and wounded after a robbery suspect returned to the scene.

Sgt. Vince Lewis says the shooting happened around 5:45 p.m. Friday in the area of 19th Avenue and Osborn Road.

According to police, two suspects tried to steal cigarettes from a Circle-K.

One was detained. The other fled.

Police say the suspect who fled came back with a third suspect in tow.

Both were armed and allegedly demanded to know where the detained suspect was.

That’s when police say shots were fired and an employee was hit.

Lewis says the victim remains in critical condition at a hospital.

The detained suspect is in police custody.

The other two left the scene in a vehicle but were located by police Saturday.
