PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - The city manager of Prescott has tendered his 60-day notice to resign from the job, effective July 12.

Craig McConnell says he will remain in the position if needed until a new city manager is hired so as to help with the transition period.

After that, McConnell says he would like to return to his prior job as regional programs director within the City Manager’s Office.

McConnell assumed the role of Acting City Manager in April 2011 upon the departure of City Manager Laurie Hadley.

He became city manager in September 2011.

Prescott Mayor Harry Oberg says the value of McConnell’s leadership cannot be overstated, especially during some very trying times in the city’s recent history when it grappled with severe budget restraints.
